Muskego Water Bugs Celebrate 50 Years

The Water Bugs were formed in 1958 on Okauchee Lake by a group of skiers with a variety of talent who wanted to show their skills to spectators. Thus, the Water Bugs were one of the first ski show clubs in the state of Wisconsin .

In 1967, the Water Bugs moved to Lake Beulah in East Troy . It was here that the club built its first ski jump which opened up new avenues for the club. As well as performing shows at Beulah Beach , the club starts to participate in State, Regional, and National Ski Show Tournaments. The Water Bugs were awarded the 2nd Place trophy for show competition at the 1973 Wisconsin State Water Ski Show Championships.

In 1974, the club moved to Rainbow Springs, and found itself becoming a traveling show, performing at different cities and lakes with no real "home site." It wasn't until 1981 when the Water Bugs built a relationship with the City of Muskego and found Little Muskego Lake as its new "home site." The club has been performing ski shows at Idle Isle Park since.

"Home coming" weekend festivities are being planned for September 5 - 7.  Plans include a welcome reception on Friday evening.  Saturday is packed with activities including an alumni show at 2:00pm and a performance by the current team at 3:00pm.  The evening will wrap up with an Anniversary Party and Hall of Fame induction at Williams Supper Club.  Alumni are encouraged to register at www.waterbugs.org to be included in future mailings.  Check back often for updates on the weekend.
